Company: Bolton Council- Ethnic Minority Business service (EMBS)
Beverley Powell of Powell Coaching delivered a winning and captivating workshop around presentation skills for Ethnic Minority Women entrepreneurs.
She was given a brief on what the requirements were and was able to present the service with tangible and realistic learning objectives, which would allow the women to participate and pick up skills that they could apply in their businesses.
The women gained both confidence and knowledge on delivering a presentation themselves.
Props were used to make things light hearted and to demonstrate the different resources, which can be used in a presentation.
By the end of the presentation the women were able to demonstrate through delivery of a presentation the importance of planning and preparing prior to delivery, skills in time management and team work and use different communication styles, including negotiation and influencing during teamwork.
The feedback from the participants was very positive; as they liked the hands on way the workshop was carried out especially the interaction between each other.
Comments such as “interesting and confidence boosting”, “very knowledgeable and motivating” were made, an overall success.

I was delighted to meet Beverley at a time in my life when I was lacking in confidence and self-belief. I was uncertain as to whether the path I was on was actually the right way for me to go, professionally and personally.
I have been a teacher for over 25 years and was feeling that I needed a career change, even though I had had success over that time, it was not where I was not happy.
A chance meeting through friends led to Beverley offering me some free coaching sessions. We met for an hour initially at my home. I then I took up the Coaching sessions over the phone. Beverley allowed me to talk for some time and then guided me to think about my current priorities as regards my work and personal life.
Although the sessions were informal I approached them seriously as I respected the level of commitment Beverley was giving me and I really wanted the Coaching to enable me to move forward, or at least to be more accepting of the current position I was in.
Beverley encouraged me to think through the issues and together, we planned through with specific objectives, what I really wanted from my life. On reflection, Beverley asked me questions which motivated me to research other options within education, and also, to consider my current skills base, and how this could be used in a different sector. Beverley raised my self-esteem, which brought me to the realisation; I could take control of my destiny.
As a result of the Coaching sessions with Beverley, I have applied for and secured a post that is both challenging and rewarding. I now have a clear work/life balance and am now more emotionally settled.
I would not hesitate to recommend Beverley as a Life Coach. Beverley Probes, questions, encourages, supports and motivates without being judgemental. This has been of tremendous help to me.
She is inspirational!

I met Beverley within the Public sector whilst working on a joint project for the company. Beverley and I had had numerous discussions about career progression, and from these discussions, Beverley mentioned she delivered Career Coaching. Although I was rather dubious about the concept of Life Coaching, I initially undertook four sessions.
As a result of the Coaching sessions, Beverley developed my self-confidence enough to apply for a post, I would have previously thougth was not within my capabilities. Beverley coached me in this new area, by looking at it through manageable pieces what my barriers were. As a result, I felt more confident and was short-listed and appointed for a post I though historically was not within my grasp.
As a result of this new post, I was invited to attend a national course to gain an accreditation. Beverley’s Coaching sessions had enabled me to have the confidence to attend the course, with the net result, I am now nationally accredited Assessor.
With the Coaching sessions from Beverley, I feel my confidence is back on track.
I would recommend Beverley as a coach to anyone looking to further their career.

Profession: Art Teacher (Adult Education)
I am a Teacher of Art and met Beverley at University. We were on the same Post Graduate Teaching Training Course. Beverley was offering free taster sessions of Coaching and being inquisitive, and also preparing myself my future career, I took up her offer of free sessions.
As Beverley understood different teaching methodologies and how people take in information, I felt Beverley adapted her Coaching sessions to my style, which is one of being very visual and a Pragmatic approach. I agreed objectives with Beverley. The objectives seemed easy to achieve, and were done in such a way that it felt enjoyable! Beverley designed colourful mind maps and diagrams, when she explained anything or when I was talking through an issue, to check out understanding. Beverley and I had our Coaching sessions on campus in an informal setting over coffee, which again suited my style of receiving and giving information.
Beverley is very approachable, highly inspirational and totally professional. Beverley still keeps in touch via e-mail with inspirational emails and newsletters. Beverley inspires positive and forward thinking; therefore I would strongly advise anyone seeking Career Coaching to ask for Beverley’s support. Beverly listens, gives you confidence and wants the best for you.
